KEY INFORMATION
Important information to know about this research study:
-
The purpose of the study is to test out a Mindful Self-Compassion group intervention to see how transgender and nonbinary young adults like the program and how well they think the individual activities work for them.
-
If you are eligible and choose to participate, you will be asked to:
-
attend a 1.5 hour introductory session followed by weekly online group meetings (2.5h each) for 8 weeks and attend one 4-hour retreat,
-
practice skills a little bit each day (20-30 mins) during the intervention,
-
complete online surveys before the first group, after the last group, and 3-months after the last group (about 40 mins each)
-
provide a mental health update (once), and
-
complete short updates about your home practice (5 minutes) each week
-
-
The entire study will take approximately six months.
-
Risks or discomforts from this research include possible emotional or physical discomfort arising from the discussion topics, activities, or physical practices included in the Mindful Self-Compassion Intervention. Because the study is limited to transgender and nonbinary folks, taking part of the study means being ‘out’ to others in the group. We will encourage everyone to maintain each other’s confidentiality, but it is possible that someone could re-share information that you share about yourself to others outside of the group.
-
The study may not benefit you directly, but your participation and feedback will help us decide whether and how this program could be useful to other transgender and nonbinary young adults in the future.
-
You will be paid up to $470 for completing study-related activities
-
You will be provided a signed copy of the consent form.
-
Taking part in this research project is voluntary. You don’t have to participate and you can stop any time.
