Hello,

a bit about me:

I am a mental health nurse, researcher, first generation college student, and bowtie aficionado.

My professional mission is to bring care back into healthcare for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, nonbinary, queer, intersex, asexual (LGBTQIA+) and other populations who experience marginalization (e.g. people with substance use disorders and/or mental illness) through my research and scholarship, teaching, and service. Some highlights include:

RESEARCH & SCHOLARSHIP

  • Developing and implementing research studies and conducting quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods analyses using data from primary, secondary, and health record data

  • Presenting research findings to scientific, professional, and lay audiences through co-authored publications and at local, regional, national & international conferences

TEACHING

  • Developing course materials that are inclusive of LGBTQIA+ people, highlight health and healthcare inequities, and teach nursing students how to provide culturally sensitive care.

  • Developing learning activities to reduce stigma toward people with behavioral health concerns (e.g. substance use disorder, mental health)

SERVICE
  • Founding and co-leading a regional network of nurses and nurse scientists interested in improving the health and reducing health disparities in LGBTQIA+ populations

  • Consulting on the improvement of healthcare environments and the delivery of compassionate, culturally sensitive care to LGBTQIA+ populations
